Posterior dislocations are uncommon and easily missed, because there is less displacement compared to the anterior dislocation. Posterior dislocation of shoulder is a rather uncommon injury that is often not diagnosed at the initial examination. Check sensation in the regimental badge area on the lateral aspect of the shoulder over the deltoid muscle.

Anteroposterior radiograph of the left shoulder shows posterior glenohumeral dislocation. It is generally caused by forces with the shoulder held in internal rotation and adduction. Prominent posterior shoulder and coracoid for acute posterior dislocation. Posterior glenohumeral shoulder dislocations are less common and caused by forced adduction, and internal rotation.
